What are Generic Medicines?

To formulate new medicines companies spent crore of rupees and it requires a lot of time too.  To have selling right on those medicines company make a patent on that medicine. That’s why those medicines can be manufactured or sold by only that company. Maximum period of that patent is 20 years. After completion of 20 years it is not needed to take components of that medicine and to research on it again. So any other company sells that medicine with different name in the market. Other companies requires a lot of less cost involved because they just pick up the contents of the medicines and form it again. No research needs to be done again. That’s why the manufacturing cost decreases. These kinds of medicines are known as Branded Generic Medicines. Content, it’s proportion and it’s quality and effect of the medicines is same as the branded. Those medicines are also known as generic medicines.

Generic medicines.

Generic means content of the medicine.

For Example Crocin is a branded name of a medicine, then main composition in that medicine is paracetamol. Then paracetamol is the generic name of Crocin.

A generic drug is a medication created to be the same as an already marketed brand-name drug in dosage form, safety, strength, route of administration, quality, performance characteristics, and intended use. These similarities help to demonstrate bioequivalence, which means that a generic medicine works in the same way and provides the same clinical benefit as its brand-name version. In other words, you can take a generic medicine as an equal substitute for its brand-name counterpart.

How we have started?

Once upon a time One of our Director Mr. Deepak Karanjikar (International motivational speaker) went for the speech in a cigarette manufacturing company. There were almost 600-700 ladies working. He started his speech and in between he asked one question to all the workers, “How many of you take/buy medicines regularly?” From the crowd of 600 only 30-40 ladies raised their hands and answered yes to the question. Deepak sir were surprised and were congratulating other ladies who didn’t raised their hands as they answered they don’t buy medicines. Telling those 30-40 ladies that you should learn something from these remaining ladies that what precautions they take so that they don’t have to take medicines on a regular basis. In the moment one of the lady who agreed was not taking medicines raised her hand and wanted to speak something. Deepak sir allowed her to speak and then she answered that there is only one option for us in the salary we get. Either we can have a meal of one time or we can buy medicines. Because the rates of the medicines are too high that we cannot afford a meal and medicines altogether in the salary/wage we get here for working. Deepak sir was shocked and speechless.

He then came back met his friend and talked to them regarding this big problem which is happening in all over India. They came up with the solution of Generic Medicines. They started in 2015 and now we have 4 pharmacies in Nashik including a wholesale one.

We sell medicines at the very low cost. We give 30-70% discounts on the generic medicines and 10% on branded medicines. Those who come to GenAastha Pharmacy ones he becomes member of Aastha family forever. Because of the relations maintained by our pharmacists and the low costs of the medicines they may not get anywhere else in Nashik.

Now because Gen Aastha Pharmacy is there to serve all the class of people now people with low wages can afford medicines and a meal both.
